PACE Humanities

Student writing on a worksheet at her desk

The curriculum for the Grade 3 PACE Humanities program is based on the New York State and BH-BL standards. Qualifying students participate at their home school in a pull-out schedule. This offers a rigorous interdisciplinary project- based curriculum in addition to a student’s regular language arts education. Qualifying students who take PACE Humanities 3 will need to re-qualify for PACE Elementary 4 or 5 programs.

Beginning in the fall of 2012 both the PACE Math and PACE Humanities program combined to create a new PACE Elementary program in both grades 4 and 5. PACE Elementary 4 and 5 integrates curriculum from both the previous elementary PACE programs and meets one morning/afternoon each week at Pashley. This program offers an emphasis on classic literature, persuasive writing, critical thinking, and problem-based learning that is an addition to the regular classroom programs. This model allows targeted instruction to the qualifying students. All aspects are closely aligned to the New York State Standards, Common Core Learning Standards, and 21st Century Framework for Learning. Criteria for qualifying for this program include: the School College Ability Test (SCAT), the Cognitive Ability Test (COGAT), state assessments, and teacher input.
