P.E. Department earns $1.17 million PEP
Grant
In September 2012, Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Central
School District was awarded a Carol M. White
Physical Education Program (PEP) Grant. The
grant is part of a program offered by the
U.S. Department of Education's office of Safe and
Drug Free Schools. We are one of only 56
school districts in the nation to receive this grant
this year!
The grant means that over the course of the next three
years the physical education, health, and FACS (Family and Consumer Sciences)
programs will benefit from
$1.17 million in federal funding. BH-BL also
received a supplemental award of $15,000 for
planting an indoor or outdoor fruit, vegetable or
herb garden partnering with existing community
agencies that promote physical education and healthy
eating for students.
For more details and answers to frequently asked questions
about how the grant will impact BH-BL, visit our

champions, and all 11 varsity teams being named
"Scholar-Athlete" teams.
See our
Fall Sports Summary for the details, including all
the teams' Scholar-Athlete grade point averages. For

2012: Update re finding
BH-BL sports
schedules online
We know and we apologize for the fact that
some people have had trouble finding the
information they want about BH-BL sports
contests online through our website. This
has been a headache for our staff and for
other Suburban Council high schools as well.
The problem is that the Suburban Council
high schools contracted as a group to use a
specific online vendor for this service, a
vendor who was subsequently bought by a
different company whose website is less easy
to navigate. The athletic directors are
working to rectify this situation.
In the meantime, we have changed the
Interscholastic Schedules button
(in burgundy in the Quicklinks bar above
right) on our website Athletics pages. It
now links directly to the ScheduleStar page
where our athletic department secretary
posts the BH-BL schedule and any last minute
changes. You may wish to bookmark that page
on your computer browser.
(Note: click on the specific contest that
interests you to reveal its location.) |

Concussion Management Plan will help protect
our student athletes
As now required by state law, the BH-BL
Athletic Department has created a new
comprehensive
Concussion Management Plan, which
describes steps that will be taken in the
event that student athletes show signs of a
concussion. Depending upon the sport,
parents may be asked to consent to having
baseline testing done on their son or
daughter, which may aid in the diagnosis
should the athlete sustain a concussion.
(Copy of
parent consent form.)
For more information, see also the
Student & Parent Information Sheet on
concussions prepared by the NY State Public
High School Athletic Association. |

all 27 varsity interscholastic sports teams fielded by
the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake high school in 2010-11

Interscholastic Sports
The BH-BL School offers 32
interscholastic athletic programs with more than 65
percent of the high school students participating in
at least one interscholastic program.
Our teams for the 2009-10 season
had a very successful year. We had four Suburban
Council League Champions (girls volleyball, boys
volleyball, football and bowling), nine Section II
Champions for Class A schools (boys cross country,
girls soccer, girls tennis, football, girls
volleyball, girls swimming, boys basketball, boys
volleyball and boys outdoor track). Also, we had six
Section II runner-ups (wrestling, boys indoor track,
girls cross country, boys lacrosse, boys tennis,
girls outdoor track). The eight-girl crew team and
boys cross country teams were state champions and
our boys football team finished second in the state.
Our girls volleyball and girls soccer teams were
among the final four in the state.
For all our successes, the New York State Sports
Writers Association named BH-BL the # 1 over-all
interscholastic program in New York State for
both the
2008-09 and the
2009-10 school years. As you can tell, the
interscholastic program at BH-BL is very strong in
talent, tradition and PRIDE.
Click on the Interscholastic Sports
links in the "Athletics Quick View" box at the top
right of this page for extensive information about
the BH-BL Athletics program.
