A new honor for the Spartans:

High School achieves 100% Scholar-Athlete Team status

For the first time in school history, all 27 varsity interscholastic sports teams fielded by the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake high school in 2010-11 have earned "Scholar-Athlete" awards by having team grade point averages (GPAs) of 90 percent or higher. This puts BH-BL in a special category achieved by only 16 NY schools last year. READ MORE

    Physical Education

The BH-BL Physical Education Department promotes healthy lifestyles of all of our students. Our goals include:

Providing a physical education program that relates to students' social, mental and physical needs.
    Producing physically fit youth.
Teaching the relationship between physical activity, physical fitness and health.
Promoting the skills, knowledge and attitudes to help children lead active, healthy and productive lives as adults.
Encouraging students to participate in a variety of activities that promote the enjoyment of a wholesome physical education experience.

Click here for information the BH-BL Physical Education curriculum & guidelines at the elementary, middle school and high school levels.

    Interscholastic Sports

The BH-BL School offers 32 interscholastic athletic programs with more than 65 percent of the high school students participating in at least one interscholastic program.

Our teams for the 2009-10 season had a very successful year. We had four Suburban Council League Champions (girls volleyball, boys volleyball, football and bowling), nine Section II Champions for Class A schools (boys cross country, girls soccer, girls tennis, football, girls volleyball, girls swimming, boys basketball, boys volleyball and boys outdoor track). Also, we had six Section II runner-ups (wrestling, boys indoor track, girls cross country, boys lacrosse, boys tennis, girls outdoor track). The eight-girl crew team and boys cross country teams were state champions and our boys football team finished second in the state. Our girls volleyball and girls soccer teams were among the final four in the state.

For all our successes, the New York State Sports Writers Association named BH-BL the # 1 over-all interscholastic program in New York State for both the 2008-09 and the 2009-10 school years. As you can tell, the interscholastic program at BH-BL is very strong in talent, tradition and PRIDE.

Click on the Interscholastic Sports links in the "Athletics Quick View" box at the top right of this page for extensive information about the BH-BL Athletics program.
