Press release of October 4, 2011
Community & staff members' input
sought in BH-BL superintendent search
Using three meetings & an online
survey
BURNT HILLS: The Burnt
Hills-Ballston Lake Board of Education invites all
BH-BL parents, residents, staff and students to participate in
the process of finding the district's superintendent
to replace the retiring Jim Schultz.
The first step in this process is
to collect input from all interested parties on the
kind of superintendent who would best meet the
district's needs, and the issues he or she should work on.
All community members and staff
members are invited to attend public forums being
held on:
| |
Thursday, October 13
from 7:30 - 9:00 pm in the
O'Rourke Middle School cafetorium and |
| |
Tuesday, October 18
from 4:00 - 5:30 pm in the High School
library |
A third input session specifically
for secondary school students will be held during
the after-school activity period on Wednesday, October 5, in the high school
Red Room.
All three forums will collect
opinions
on the following four questions:
| |
1. What are the
strengths of the BH-BL school district? |
| |
2. What needs to be
improved? |
| |
3. What characteristics
and personal attributes should the new
superintendent have? |
| |
4. What will the new
superintendent need to work on first? |
Online participation
Attending these forums in person is
the BEST way to participate, but anyone who cannot
attend in person is welcome to:

will be broadcast live online with the same
webinar
technology the board has used in the past couple
of years to broadcast its budget forums over the
internet in real time. Anyone with high speed
internet access and a computer with speakers will be
able to watch the October 13 session and type in
their opinions over a computer.

How does the Online Meeting process work?
How input will be used
Opinions collected from the three
forums and the online survey will be used in several
ways as the process of selecting and interviewing
superintendent candidates unfolds. A brochure
describing BH-BL and soliciting applicants is being
prepared in October. This will include a statement
about the kind of person the board is looking for.
Capital Region BOCES superintendent
Charles Dedrick told the board he has also found
community and staff members' opinions to be a good source of interview
questions when he has facilitated similar
superintendent searches for other school districts.
Dr. Dedrick is the agent chosen by the BH-BL Board
of Education to facilitate this year-long process.
