The Burnt Hill-Ballston Lake Board of Education is conducting a national search for a new district superintendent to replace Jim Schultz. After 40 years with BH-BL, Schultz announced on September 1, 2011, that he will be retiring on June 30, 2012.

The search process will be coordinated for the school board by Capital Region BOCES superintendent Dr. Charles Dedrick, whose assistance is provided at no charge since BH-BL is already a member of the BOCES.

A timeline of search activities has been prepared as shown below. Some winter/spring dates are subject to change, but the board's goal is to complete the process by the first week of April 2012.

Community input

As one of their goals for 2011-12, Board members are committed to using

"an inclusive search process to identify a superintendent who will preserve the strengths of the BH-BL culture and ensure continued excellence in our schools."

As elected community officials, the ultimate decision on the new superintendent rests with the Board of Education. However, participation by a wide range of community members is particularly needed during October's input meetings and February's second round of interviews.

October: Community resident, students & staff shared their input at meetings on Oct. 5, 13 and 18 and via an online survey.

Their ideas and opinions have now been incorporated into the brochure describing the job opening and will be used in both selecting and interviewing candidates.

February:  Representatives from the various stakeholder groups in the district will be assembled into interview teams to conduct the second round of interviews with candidates selected by the school board.

Details for this are included in the December 1 press release:  Volunteers needed for superintendent search
