Middle school students to benefit from more efficient arrival & dismissal procedures

Does a later bus pick up time sound good to your child? How about eliminating the waiting period on the bus in the morning? And, get ready for students to also say goodbye to gathering in the cafeteria before the start of school.

This summer the middle school busing schedule as well as the arrival and dismissal procedures were restructured to be more efficient and supportive of decreased wait times and increased instructional time.

Arrival to School

Beginning in September, students who ride the bus to school will generally arrive at the building at 7:35 a.m. They will exit the bus and report directly to homeroom. Students no longer have to wait on the bus upon arrival to school and they no longer haveto wait in the cafeteria for school to begin!

Note: Your child’s new school bus pick up time will be included in a letter from the Transportation Department, which will be in mailboxes this week.

Dismissal from School

Dismissal procedures have also changed. Every middle school student will now be dismissed from their last class of the day at 2:25 p.m. At that time students will have 3 to 5 minutes to go to their homerooms, gather their belongings, exit the building, and board their dismissal bus.

There is now only one regular dismissal for all students. Therefore, all buses will be lined up along the east, west, and south sides of the school building waiting for students. There will be multiple student exit zones throughout the building so that students are exiting the building through doors closest to their bus. Your child will be told his or her exit zone on the first day of school.

New Pick-up & Drop-off Traffic Patterns

The quickest way for your child to get to and from school is to have him or her ride the school bus.

Additionally, please know that no vehicles other than school buses will be allowed to park or idle in the driving lanes at the front of the building during arrival and dismissal times. If parents are dropping off their child at school, please ensure your child arrives no later than 7:40 a.m. Students are expected to be in homeroom by 7:45 a.m.

If parents need to pick up their child early from school, they must do so by 2 p.m. (By 2:20 p.m. buses will be parked around the school and in the driving lane awaiting student dismissal.) Please park your vehicle in the parking lot and go to the main office to sign out your child.

For those parents who pick up their children daily, please wait until 2:35 p.m. to arrive at school. At that time, the buses will have safely departed and the driving lane at the front of the building will be open. Students being picked up at regular dismissal time will remain in a safe location at the front of the building to wait for their ride.

Early Pick-up Procedures

If it becomes necessary for a student to leave school early, the student should:

  • Bring a signed note from your parent/guardian to the attendance office before morning homeroom period. If you are walking to a local doctor's office, the note must state that you are walking.
  • Leave class at the excused time and wait in the Main Office. A parent/guardian must come into the Main Office to meet and sign out the student. If the student is not being picked up by a parent/guardian, the signed note from the parent/guardian must state who is picking up the student or the person must be designated as an emergency contact on the emergency information sheet handed in at the beginning of the school year.

When do I need to send in a note?

  • When a student needs to leave school early to go to an appointment.
  • Students need to have written permission from a parent/guardian on file in the Main Office if they are not riding the bus.
  • Leaving on a different dismissal than the assigned one for any reason requires a parent note and/or a bus pass from the Main Office.
