Thomas Schottman, a dear friend and mentor to the Stevens community, passed away recently at the age of 93, surrounded by his loving family.
For the past 22 years, Tom served as a volunteer and mentor at Stevens School. He mentored individual students, and he shared his love of poetry with our Stevens Superstars. Tom was an amazing man and a great friend. He’s a guy who dedicated his life to teaching kids. After studying at Cornell he taught for six years in the Ithaca and Finger Lakes region. Then he worked as an administrator for 26 years, first as a principal in Skaneateles, then as a curriculum coordinator for Burnt Hills, and then again as a principal in Scotia/Glenville. For the past 37 years, Tom worked as a sculptor, and shared his love of art and his beautiful sculptures with the BH-BL community. Tom also enjoyed writing, and he even published a textbook.
We loved and admired Mr. Schottman, and will miss his warm presence at Stevens School. He will forever be a Stevens Superstar.
