Charlton Heights Library Media Center

The Charlton Heights Library Media Center was enlarged and completely remodeled during the summer of 2002.  Our new space is approximately 3,200 sq. feet, where we offer access to more than 10,000 items (books and other media).  We have a 24-station computer lab which is used to teach students about accessing information via the Internet and library catalog, as well as for word-processing, creating slide presentations, and utilizing other software packages purchased by the district.

Charlton Heights Library Rules and Procedures

Kindergarteners begin their year by borrowing one book per week.  We start by offering them a selection of appropriate (and popular!) picture book titles from which they may choose something that appeals to them.  When they have begun to get used to the routines in the classroom and the library, they are allowed to make their own selection from the shelves in the picture book section.  Later in the year, Kindergarteners may decide for themselves whether they want to borrow a picture book or a nonfiction book.

Students in grades 1-2 may borrow up to 1 item at a time, and 3rd-5th graders are allowed 2 items.  Since losing our full-time library clerk in 2010, this is all we can manage in a facility of this size with just a staff of one.

The loan period is 1 week.  We give verbal reminders until a book is very overdue, usually more than a month.
