High School Performing Groups
Receive High Honors at NYSSMA Festivals
In April 2012, the Concert Choir,
String Orchestra, and Concert Band performed for
adjudication at Major Organizations Festivals
sponsored by the New York State School Music
Association (NYSSMA). Under the direction of
Ann Derrick, the Concert Choir performed Level 5
music and received a Gold Award. The String
Orchestra, under the baton of Karen Russell,
received a Level 6 Silver Award. The Concert
Band, conducted by Peter Giroux, received the
highest possible rating, Level 6 Gold "with
Distinction". This is the sixth year in a row
for such an achievement, and the eleventh time since
the year 2000.

Congratulations BH-BL Reflections Winners!
The Reflections committee is proud to announce that
all five PTSA Reflections art contest winners at the
BH-BL High School were selected to represent our
school at the regional level. Congratulations
to Dylan Scacchetti, Danielle Chevalier and Brittany
Harrigan (visual arts); Edward Pomykaj (film
production) and Alec Scacchetti (photography).
These five students are invited to a recognition
event to be held at Ballston Spa High School on
Thursday, April 26th.

Mrs. Layden's Cinemation Class won Outstanding
Public Service Announcement at the annual Media
Festival & Competition held at Niskayuna High
School, March 2012.

High School All Stars
Exhibition
Six students from BH-BL were
selected to display their works at the Saratoga Arts
Council High School All Stars Exhibition.
Outstanding student work from all schools in
Saratoga County will be featured at this show.
The show is January 7th through January 28th at the
Saratoga Arts Center, 320 Broadway, Saratoga
Springs. The opening reception is on Saturday,
January 7th from 3-5 p.m.

Select Choir performing holiday
music on TV
The BH-BL Select Choir will be
performing once again on WMHT's Music for the
Holidays radio and television program in December. The singers auditioned through a DVD submission in October and were one of 18 Capital Region school
choirs to be chosen. The choir, under the
direction of Ann Derrick, was recorded at the WMHT studios in Troy on
November 21. The one-hour Music for the Holidays
special will air at the following times:
WMHT-TV: Monday,
December 19th - 5-6 p.m.; Thursday, December 22nd -
8-9 p.m.; Friday, December 23rd - 5-6 p.m.; Sunday,
December 25th - 4-5 p.m.
WMHT-FM: Sunday,
December 25th - 6-7 p.m.

Three students chosen for
"All-States" music conference in Rochester
Congratulations to BH-BL seniors
Steven Kirsty, Brandon Mooney and Sam Evans, who
were selected by state-wide auditions to participate
in the New York School Music Association Conference
All-State Music Festival to be held in Rochester,
N.Y. on December 1-4.
Steven Kirsty - Tenor Saxophone
will be performing in the All-State Jazz Ensemble.
Brandon Mooney - Trumpet will perform with the
All-State Symphony Orchestra, and Sam Evans -
Trombone will perform with the All-State Symphonic
Band. This event brings some 800 of the best music
students from across New York to perform together
under nationally acclaimed conductors. Students
competed against thousands of other music students
in the state to become members of these select
ensembles. |

2011-2012 Concert Schedule
Note: ALL concerts will be held in the High School
auditorium at 7:30 PM unless otherwise noted.
Admission to elementary school concerts is free.
Adult admission to secondary school concerts is
$1.00 (except for BH-BL residents with a Senior
Citizens Pass), which goes to fund concert expenses
and student participation in many extra-curricular

11 Students Chosen for Area All-State,
Nov. 18-19
Eleven BH-BL high school musicians have
been selected by New York State School Music
Association audition to participate in
the Area All-State Music Festival at Saratoga
Springs High School on November 18th & 19th. The festival brings together some of the best music students from NYSSMA Zone 7, an area of 200 miles in and around
Albany.
Colin Foster & Erin Kilmer will
participate in the Area All-State Chorus. Marcy
McCarthy & Emily Roehl will perform with the Area
All-State Band. Steven Kirsty & Brandon
Mooney will join the Area All-State Jazz
Ensemble. Abigail Baumbach, Jessica Port,
Nolan Hale, Stacie Bradley & Julia Boschi will
perform with the Area All-State Orchestra.
The public is invited to hear all four ensembles
in concert at Saratoga High School at 2:00 pm on
Saturday, Nov. 19th. Admission is $5 adult and
$3 senior citizens/students.
