The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Department of Fine Arts will present the 2nd annual Jazz Showcase on Tuesday, April 8 in the high school auditorium at 7:30 p.m.
In its second year, the Jazz Showcase features the High School Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Mr. Peter Giroux and the High School Jazz Choir under the direction of Mr. Bradley Gregg. This year Pete McGuinness, world renown composer, arranger, Jazz trombonist and Jazz vocalist will be in residence for two days working with students from both Jazz groups in preparation for the Tuesday evening Jazz Showcase.
McGuinness, who is also a professor of Jazz Arranging at William Patterson University in New Jersey will be working with Burnt Hills students to improve their Jazz improvisation skills and Jazz instrumental and vocal techniques in the two days of rehearsals and master classes.
The concert on Tuesday April 8, is free to the public.
The Showcase will feature selections by the Jazz Ensemble and Vocal Jazz Choir featuring many Burnt Hills students and McGuinness as soloists. The concert will open with all members of both groups joining forces in the Jazz Standard, “Lullaby of Broadway”.
