Get ready to explore the Chinese language and culture

Join the exploratory half-day program, Nov. 14, 15, 18 and 19

BH-BL in collaboration with WSWHE BOCES is offering stduent in grades 1 through 5 the opportunity to participate in the Half-Day Exploratory Chinese Program from 12:30 to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14, Friday, Nov. 15, Monday, Nov. 18 and Tuesday, Nov. 19.

The cost of the program is $100 and includes 10 hours of instruction.

Project Chinese will be offered at The Charlton Heights Elementary School. Students attending Pashley and Stevens Elementary Schools will be transported to Charlton Heights. Parents are responsible for picking up their child at 3 pm at Charlton Heights Elementary School.

The experienced and trained teaching staff, many of whom have taught Chinese together for years, collaborates as a team. As a result, your child will benefit from the expertise of this enthusiastic team. Mandarin is considered a “critical language” meaning, there is a large demand for language professionals that speak Mandarin but there are not enough professionals to meet the demand. It is also proven that students of foreign languages that practice in earlier grades are more likely to become fluent in their language than those starting in secondary school.

Project Chinese will expose your child to the culture as well as learning the language. The theme for the four days will be based on the Chinese Winter Solstice or “Winter Festival”. According to historical records, Winter Solstice was regarded as the starting point of a new year during the Zhou and Qin dynasties (1046 – 207 BC). Your children will learn about the history of this holiday, make dumplings, and learn traditional folk songs.
