It's summer, so why go inside to workout when you can do a gym workout outside at the new BH-BL Outdoor Community Fitness Center.
Thanks to the three-year Carol White Physical Education Program (PEP) grant, BH-BL staff were able to design, build and fund an outdoor fitness center to further promote lifelong physical well being.
Located at the back of the high school, the Outdoor Community Fitness Center is built on a platform cushioned with recycled rubber and has a dozen pieces of multi-purpose equipment--for both cardio and weight-bearing activities.
During the school year, the outdoor fitness center will be treated as an extension of the physical education classroom and used during PE classes (weather permitting), and interscholastic and club athletic teams.
The community is also welcome to use the outdoor facility. Unsure how to use all the equipment? Don't worry, PEP Grant Manager Geoff Leggieri, together with community members, put together an instructional video that demonstrates how to use each piece of equipment.
"This is a really exciting endeavor for BH-BL," says Leggieri. "We are fortunate to have been selected as PEP grant recipients and we've worked hard to improve and expand upon our physical education program. The Outdoor Community Fitness Center is just another example of our committment to educating our students, and the community, about the benefits of physical activity and encouraging a healthy lifestyle."
The Outdoor Community Fitness Center is ready for public use. As with all our facilities and equipment, we kindly ask that you treat the fitness center with respect. The center is open from dawn to dusk. If you have any questions, please contact Geoff Leggieri at firstname.lastname@example.org.
