The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Education Foundation will hold its annual Taste of Burnt Hills fundraiser on Monday, Oct. 20, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the BH-BL High School Cafeteria, 88 Lakehill Road. Tickets are $25 and may be purchased at Mail 'n' More, Route 50, and will also be available at the door.
Guests will enjoy the signature dishes of fourteen of the finest restaurants and purveyors of food in our area, including Augie’s, Marcella’s, The Factory, Creekside Café, Mr. Wok, Carney’s, Charlton Tavern, Pig n’ Whistle at the Grove, Bayou Café, Pizza Works, BH-BL Food Service, Villago Ristorante, Mohawk Taproom, and Buckley Farm Café.
The evening will feature an expanded Silent Auction, including a weekend stay at a lakeside cottage, jewelry, and original art work. Several items will be raffled, including a quilt and a basket with a Keurig coffeemaker and accessories. Musical entertainment will enhance the evening.
Proceeds from the Taste of Burnt Hills enable the Education Foundation to further its mission of supporting the youth of the BH-BL community by generating and dispersing funds for services, equipment, enrichment programs, and other projects designed to enhance education. Since 2000, the Foundation has awarded over one hundred thirty grants totaling more than $120,000 to seed innovative ideas, for example, Chromebooks for the High School science program, an iPad with apps to meet the special needs of students on the autistic spectrum, books and games for the anti-bullying program in the elementary schools, and a wind turbine, data logger and solar panels for use by technology and environmental studies. Students in every building of the district have benefited from the creativity and innovation which the grants have made possible.
To support these innovative projects the Foundation sells bricks which will be engraved with a personal message and placed in the High School Plaza and solicits grant money from private foundations. It also accepts tax-deductible contributions which can be designated for the general fund, the Alumni/Endowment Fund or the Egan Library/Media Fund.
Its primary fundraiser is the Taste of Burnt Hills, an event which not only supports the work of the Foundation but also showcases the fine eateries of our area and brings the community together for a truly enjoyable evening. Tickets for $25 may be purchased at Mail 'n' More and will be available at the door.
