Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School and Schenectady County Community College (SCCC) have continued to expand our relationship over the last several years. It has proven to be a positive agreement to this point, and a unique opportunity for students to earn both College and High School credits concurrently. The transferability rate of credits for this program has remained very high, as credits are accepted in SUNY schools, as well as most private colleges and out-of-state institutions. Students must receive a grade of a “C” or higher in order to transfer the credits. Please keep in mind that your student’s attendance is a requirement for success in these courses. Excessive absences will result in loss of college credit and will have an impact on BH-BL credit for the course as well.
General information on the process to register and pay for these courses can be found on the SUNY Schenectady CHS website.
The cost for each UHS / SCCC course is $70 per credit hour or $210 for a 3-credit course ($280 for a 4-credit course). The normal tuition rate at SCCC is $207 per credit hour or $621 per 3-credit course. Typical SUNY tuition rates are even higher. Students will need to register (beginning Monday, 9/9) online [follow this link for online registration] and an invoice will be mailed home. The payment deadline is November 1, 2024. Students should register for ALL classes at once, not for each individual course. This helps SCCC in processing and awarding scholarships/waiver and with their billing process.
We understand that although this is a significant savings and an opportunity to earn SUNY transferable credit at a reduced rate, it is an expense nonetheless. As a result, students are not required to register for the college-credit portion of these courses. Students have the option to take these courses solely for BH-BL credit. If you and your child are not interested in receiving college credit or do not want to pay the associated fee, then students should not register with SCCC. It is more difficult to drop the course from the college’s end at a later date. Your child’s teacher can assist with this process.
Financial assistance is available from SCCC for families who are unable to cover the cost of these courses. Scholarship and funding opportunities are available from SCCC at this link. All students are asked to complete the application. We will make every effort to provide assistance in order to ensure this opportunity for your child. Please contact me directly (tbrunson@bhbl.org) if you have any questions.
Students who reside in Saratoga County must obtain a Certificate of Residency (COR) and hand it in to their BH-BL Instructor by Tuesday, October 1, 2024. (This form is no longer required to be notarized.) General information on the process can be found by following this link. These forms can be obtained at the County Treasurer’s Office, or downloaded from this link. Please speak with your BH-BL teacher or Principal Brunson with questions on this process. Saratoga County residents who do not complete the necessary paperwork, including the Certificate of Residency process, will be charged full tuition for all courses taken at SCCC.
Thank you for your understanding. Don’t hesitate to contact your student’s Teacher, their Counselor, or me directly with any questions or concerns. Best wishes for a successful school year!
