Confirmed Case of COVID-19 at BH-BL High School

Earlier today we were notified that BH-BL High School has confirmed a positive case for COVID-19. The student was last in the building on Thursday, Nov. 19.

Our COVID-19 Coordinator, high school administrators, and other school officials have been working with the Saratoga County Department of Health to help officials implement their contact tracing protocols. Parents have already been notified by the school if their children will need to be placed on mandatory quarantine. All individuals placed on mandatory quarantine are strongly encouraged to follow the quarantine guidelines from the DOH.

Based on the DOH’s investigation, it is not being recommended that we close the school beyond the regularly scheduled Thanksgiving recess. The student who tested positive is in quarantine for the recommended time and will not return to in-person school until cleared by the Department of Health.

This notification is part of our commitment to keep you informed during these uncertain times. However, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other privacy laws restrict district officials from disclosing or confirming any personally identifiable information. Therefore, we cannot identify by name anyone who has tested positive.

We will continue to work closely with our local Departments of Health and we will follow their guidance on how to maintain a safe and healthy learning environment. We cannot emphasize enough that parents, students and staff members need to be just as vigilant following guidelines outside of school, this includes limiting group gatherings, practicing good hygiene, wearing masks and following social distance guidelines. If you have questions regarding mandatory quarantine information or would like to talk with an individual from our local health departments, their hotline telephone numbers are: Saratoga County at (518) 885-2276  and Schenectady County at (518) 386-2824.

Please continue to conduct at-home screenings and maintain personal awareness of COVID symptoms for your children. Visit our website or contact your child’s school principal directly if you would like more information about our health and safety procedures.
