Early Monday morning, Nov. 2, BH-BL administrators were notified that a hybrid high school student has been confirmed positive for COVID-19. This individual’s last day in the building was Thursday, October 29.
Upon receiving the information, district officials immediately began working with the Saratoga and Schenectady County Departments of Health to help officials identify anyone who may have been in close contact with the student. The Saratoga County Department of Health is currently implementing its contact tracing protocols and will reach out to individuals and advise on the need to quarantine, if necessary, and to arrange testing of those potentially exposed. Based on the DOH’s investigation, it is not being recommended that we close the building. Therefore, the high school will remain open for in-person instruction.
This notification is part of our commitment to keep you informed during these uncertain times. However, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other privacy laws restrict district officials from disclosing or confirming any personally identifiable information. Therefore, we cannot identify by name anyone who has tested positive. The student who tested positive is in quarantine for the recommended time and will not return to in-person school until cleared by the Department of Health. We will continue to work closely with our local Departments of Health and we will follow their guidance on how to maintain a safe and healthy learning environment.
We cannot emphasize enough that parents, students and staff members need to be just as vigilant following guidelines outside of school, this includes limiting group gatherings, practicing good hygiene, wearing masks and following social distance guidelines. Please continue to conduct at-home screenings and maintain personal awareness of COVID symptoms for your children. Visit our website or contact your child’s school principal directly if you would like more information about our health and safety procedures.
