Driver Ed applications due 1/23

Applications  for the spring session of Driver Education are now being accepted.

The application for the course must be completed by a parent/guardian, and submitted by Thursday, January 23.

Students must bring a $300 check (made payable to BH-BL Schools) to the opening meeting on Monday, January 27 at 2:30 p.m. in the High School Library. Payment will be processed at that time for students enrolled in the program, and checks will be returned to students who are unable to be enrolled for the session.

The spring Driver Education session will run from Monday, January 27 through Friday, June 12. For more information about the program, please see the Driver Education information letter below.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Our spring Driver Education program will begin on Monday, January 27, 2020 through Friday, June 12, 2020. Enrolled students receive 24 hours of classroom instruction, 18 hours of in-car observation and 6 hours of behind the wheel instruction. Attendance at all sessions is mandatory to meet the State time requirements. In this short time, we cannot hope to make the student an accomplished driver, so we will need your assistance in providing at least 20 hours of supervised driving time for your son/daughter in your family car. An additional 30 hours will be needed prior to obtaining their senior license at age 17. A student-driving log will be provided for you to initial at home. We require that all students have a valid New York State Learner’s Permit or Driver’s License (a copy is required with registration application). Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be issued an MV285 “Blue Card”, allowing the student to obtain a senior license at age 17 and an insurance card to be presented to your insurance company to obtain any applicable premium discounts.

Parents/guardians can apply for their child to be enrolled by completing the online application by Thursday, January 23rd.  Students will be accepted based on their grade (seniors first, and juniors next), and then by birthdates. Tuition for the course is $300 (checks only please, made payable to BH-BL Schools). Students must bring their payment to the opening meeting on Monday, January 27. Payment will be processed at that time for any students enrolled in the program, and checks will be returned to any students who are unable to be enrolled for the session.

The first class and opening meeting for all students is Monday, January 27 at 2:30 p.m. with the instructors in the high school library to discuss the Driver Education program expectations and procedures. Class assignments and the remainder of the schedule will be discussed at this time so attendance is mandatory for all students. Please be prepared, as you may be driving on that day.

Your help and cooperation is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call me at 518-399-9141 ext. 83302.

Thanks,

Neil Estrada
