Fall 2021 Driver Education Applications Due Sept. 16

Enroll by Sept. 16

Applications are available and being accepted until Thursday, Sept. 16, for the fall session that runs from Monday, Sept. 20, 2021 through Friday, Jan. 14, 2022. We require all students to have a valid New York State Learner’s Permit or Driver’s License and be uploaded with the application. Students will be accepted based on their grade (seniors first, then juniors, and then by birthdate).  [DOWNLOAD THE APPLICATION]

Students must bring their $300 check (made payable to BH-BL Schools) to the Main Office by the application deadline.  The first class and opening meeting for all students, with instructors, will take place in the Spartan LGI Center at 2:30 pm and will outline the Driver Education program expectations and procedures.  Class assignments and the remainder of the schedule will be discussed at this time so attendance on Monday, September 20 is mandatory.  Please also ensure that your child is prepared with his/her permit/license, as some students will be driving that day following the meeting. Students not accepted will have their $300 check returned.

Driver Education Program

Enrolled students receive 24 hours of classroom instruction (in a 1.5 hour Theory class once a week after school), 18 hours of in-car observation and 6 hours of behind the wheel instruction (in a 1.5 hour driving class once a week after school). In this short time, we cannot hope to make the student an accomplished driver, so we will need your assistance in providing at least 20 hours of supervised driving time for your child in your family car. An additional 30 hours will be needed prior to obtaining their senior license at age 17. A student-driving log will be provided for you to initial at home. Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be issued an MV285 certificate. One portion of the certificate goes to DMV, allowing the student to schedule a road test or to obtain a senior license at age 17. The other portion of the certificate is to be presented to your automobile insurance company to obtain any applicable premium discounts.

Attendance at all classes is mandatory to meet these New York State requirements.  Failure to do so will result in an incomplete for the course.

If you have any additional questions or concerns, please contact Vanessa Sanchez in the High School Main Office at vsanchez@bhbl.org.
