Applications are now being accepted for the fall session of Driver Education. The application for the course must be completed by a parent/guardian, and submitted by Thursday, Sept. 12. Once the application is submitted, students must provide a $300 check (made payable to BH-BL Schools) to the High School Main Office.
BH-BL’s Fall Driver Education program begins Monday, Sept. 16, 2019 through Friday, Jan. 17, 2020. Enrolled students receive 24 hours of classroom instruction, 18 hours of in-car observations, and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction. Attendance at all sessions is mandatory to meet the state’s time requirements.
In this short time, we cannot hope to make the student an accomplished driver, so we will need your assistance in providing at least 20 hours of supervised driving time for your son/daughter in your family car. Students will need an additional 30 hours prior to obtaining their senior license at age 17. A student-driving log will be provided for you to initial at home. We also require that all students have a valid New York State Learner’s Permit or Driver’s License (a copy is required with registration application).
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be issued an MV285 “Blue Card,” which allows them to obtain a senior license at age 17 and an insurance card that must be presented to your insurance company to obtain any applicable premium discounts.
The first class for all students is Monday, Sept 16 at 2:30 p.m. in the High School’s Spartan Center. Students and instructors will discuss the Driver Education program expectations and procedures. Class assignments and the remainder of the schedule will be discussed at this time so attendance is mandatory for all students. Please be prepared, as students may be driving on that day. Students may check the student news window by the Main Office regarding the program on Friday, Sept. 13.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact High School Assistant Principal Neil Estrada at 518-399-9141 ext. 83302.
