Part 2 of Grade 8 NYS ELA Exam Moved to April 10; Grades 3-7 Exams Remain on Schedule

Important NYS ELA Testing Update

Part 2 of Grade 8 NYS ELA Exam Moved to April 10; Grades 3-7 NYS ELA Exams Remain on Schedule

The New York State Education Department has reported that in many districts across the state a technical glitch interrupted the computer-based NYS ELA exam that was administered today. Fortunately, at BH-BL it appears that all of the grade 8 exams were successfully submitted. (Please note, at BH-BL only students in grade 8 took computer-based exams. The grades 3-7 exams were not impacted because students took them on paper.)

Because the state Education Department has temporarily postponed computer-based testing statewide, BH-BL grade 8 students will not take the second part of the ELA exam tomorrow. The grade 8 students’ second day of testing has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 10. BH-BL students in grades 3 through 7 will take Part 2 of the NYS ELA exam as scheduled tomorrow, Wednesday, April 3.  Grade 8 students should report to school for a regular class day tomorrow.

Wednesday, April 10 is a scheduled half-day of school. Grade 8 students will be released from Part 2 of the NYS ELA exam at regular half-day dismissal time. If any students need extra time beyond dismissal hours to finish the ELA exam, alternate transportation will be provided.

In order to maintain a testing environment in the middle school for grade 8 students on Wednesday, April 10, there will be no school for students in grades 6 and 7 that day. All other grades will follow the previously planned half-day schedule.

If you have additional questions, please contact your child’s school.
