K-5 Practice Virtual Learning Day, Nov. 12

Thursday, Nov. 12 is a K-5 half day of school & parent-teacher conferences. We are taking the opportunity on this day to also run a fully remote, virtual instruction practice day. This means students will remain home on Thursday, Nov. 12, but will log in to their classes remotely and follow the half day of school schedule outlined below.

Our goal in holding a practice virtual learning day is to reacquaint both students and parents with the technical aspect of virtual learning should the district ever need to shift to fully remote instruction in the future.  While this practice day will not directly reflect what a full virtual day would entail, it will provide us with information to help us prepare for a shift to remote learning if it were to become necessary.

In-School Preparation for Nov. 12 Virtual Instruction Practice Day

In order to help prepare your children for the Nov. 12 virtual instruction school day, teachers will show students how to use their school-issued chromebooks to access their virtual class. Teachers will show students how to do this within the next few days.

On Tuesday, Nov. 10, all students will bring a chromebook home with them to use on Thursday for the virtual instruction practice day. If there are any difficulties accessing their teacher’s virtual classroom, please feel free to connect using a home computer or laptop. If you are unable to connect, for any reason, please reach out to staff in the main office of your child’s school and let them know.  If you experience technical difficulties during the day, please access our remote learning technology support page, which can also be found on our website under “Fully Virtual School.” At the bottom of this web page, you will find a link to submit a question that will put you in contact with district technology support staff.

Schedule for the Nov. 12 Virtual Instruction Practice Day

  • 9 a.m. Morning Meeting/Homeroom: All students will log in to their homeroom at this time. Classroom teachers will outline the basic idea behind the day and orient their students to the schedule for the day. This should include the special area class (if scheduled) and any other pertinent meetings that students would need to attend.
  • 9:15-11:30 a.m. Instructional Day: Students will attend their day virtually based on the schedule shared by their teachers. Teachers and other professionals will access students as necessary throughout the day. The day will end at 11:30 a.m.

Below are links to instructions for accessing virtual classes through Google Classroom and Google Meet.

Please remember that even on half days and the virtual learning practice day, the Qualtric Survey must still be completed.

Thank you for your support with our virtual learning practice day.  Feel free to contact me with any questions.
