Multiple Confirmed Cases of COVID-19 Recently Reported

After a quiet holiday break where two cases of confirmed COVID-19 were reported, we received reports today of multiple students and staff who were confirmed positive at some point over the break. (A backlog of cases were reported all at once.) None of these positive cases, however, were contracted at school. The district’s COVID-19 Coordinator and school administrators worked closely with officials from the Saratoga and the Schenectady County Departments of Health when the cases were reported. DOH’s investigation revealed that contact tracing was unnecessary in all of the cases except one. Parents have already been notified by district personnel if their child needs to be placed in mandatory quarantine.

The students and staff members who tested positive are in quarantine for the recommended time and will return to school/work once cleared by the Department of Health. There are two confirmed cases at each elementary school, three cases at the middle school, three cases at the high school, one case in transportation, and one case at the district level.  We will continue to work closely with our local Departments of Health and we will follow their guidance on how to maintain a safe and healthy learning environment.

This notification is part of our commitment to keep you informed during these uncertain times. However, please know that the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other privacy laws restrict district officials from disclosing or confirming any personally identifiable information. Therefore, we cannot identify by name anyone who has tested positive.

We cannot emphasize enough that we must all remain vigilant and follow the guidelines outside of school, this includes limiting group gatherings, practicing good hygiene, wearing masks and following social distance guidelines. Please continue to conduct at-home screenings and maintain personal awareness of COVID symptoms. If your child does not feel well, please keep him or her home. Visit our website or contact your child’s school principal directly if you would like more information about our health and safety procedures.
