Spring Recess Travel Advisory Reminder

As we look ahead to spring recess, April 2-9, we know that some families have plans to travel and have had questions regarding what that means for their child’s return to school after the break.

On March 11, 2021, Governor Cuomo announced that New York State will no longer require those who travel within the domestic U.S. to quarantine upon return to New York. The Governor’s complete announcement can be found here: Governor Cuomo Announces Quarantine for Domestic Travel Will No Longer Be Required Starting April 1.

Although the NYS Department of Health recommends quarantining for 10 days after domestic travel as an added precaution, it is not required.

For those who travel outside of the domestic U.S. however, mandatory quarantine is still required.

Regardless of quarantine status, all individuals exposed to COVID-19 or returning from travel must:

  • Continue daily symptom monitoring through Day 14;
  • Continue strict adherence to all recommended non-pharmaceutical interventions, including hand hygiene and the use of face coverings, through Day 14 (even if fully vaccinated); and
  • Must immediately self isolate if any symptoms develop and contact the local public health authority or their healthcare provider to report this change in clinical status and determine if they should seek testing.

As a result of these changes to the NYS Travel Advisory, the district’s daily Qualtrics Screening Survey question regarding travel will be changed, effective Monday, April 12, to reflect travel outside the domestic U.S. only.

If you have any questions about your child’s specific status regarding returning to school after traveling or any other COVID-19 related concerns on behalf of your child, please contact your school nurse.

As always, we appreciate your continued diligence in adhering to all health and safety protocols on behalf of our students and staff well being. Best wishes for a happy and healthy Spring Recess!
