Three Confirmed Cases at Stevens

We recently learned that one Stevens Elementary student and two staff members have been confirmed positive for COVID-19. The Saratoga Department of Health (DOH) does not believe any of these cases were caused by an exposure at school. The district’s COVID-19 Coordinators have been in close contact with the DOH. Based on the DOH’s investigation and the fact that the student has been out of the building since December 4, one staff member is in the fully virtual school and the other has not been in the school building since the week of Nov. 30, it has been determined that contract tracing is unnecessary, no students or additional staff members are required to be placed in quarantine, and there is no need to close the building.

This notification is part of our commitment to keep you informed during these uncertain times. However, please know that the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other privacy laws restrict district officials from disclosing or confirming any personally identifiable information. Therefore, we cannot identify by name anyone who has tested positive. The student and staff members who tested positive are in quarantine for the recommended time and will not return to in-person school until cleared by the Department of Health. We will continue to work closely with our local Departments of Health and we will follow their guidance on how to maintain a safe and healthy learning environment.

We cannot emphasize enough that we must all remain vigilant and  follow the guidelines outside of school, this includes limiting group gatherings, practicing good hygiene, wearing masks and following social distance guidelines.

Please continue to conduct at-home screenings and maintain personal awareness of COVID symptoms. Visit our website or contact your child’s school principal directly if you would like more information about our health and safety procedures.
