Dear BH-BL Community,
I am sharing this news with both deep admiration and gratitude: After 14 years of outstanding leadership, Superintendent Dr. Patrick McGrath has informed the Board of Education of his decision to retire at the close of this school year, June 30, 2026.
He will leave behind a legacy of academic achievement on the part of our students, as well as a culture of positive professional and community relationships, the modernization of our facilities, and a long history of successful shared decision making–among many, many other achievements.
The Board of Education has been preparing for his retirement and is ready to begin the extensive, statewide search for his replacement.
We are committed to conducting a comprehensive, inclusive and transparent search process, which includes forming a Hiring Committee composed of various stakeholder groups (i.e., parents, residents, staff, and students) to participate in the hiring process and make final recommendations to the Board. The Board will be involved in all aspects of the search process and will remain open to feedback and recommendations when making its final decision, which is anticipated for mid March 2026.
We recognize that this search, and the final decision, is the single most important responsibility a School Board carries. We also know that we are a representative body of the community and we take that responsibility seriously. Our goal is to hire the most qualified person who can take on the immense responsibilities of becoming BH-BL’s seventh Superintendent of Schools.
Thank you,
Don Marshall
President, BH-BL Board of Education
