At tonight’s special meeting, the BH-BL Board of Education is expected to vote to appoint Dr. Christopher Abdoo as BH-BL’s next Superintendent of Schools. He replaces Superintendent Dr. Patrick McGrath who will retire at the end of this school year after 14 years of service at BH-BL.
“Throughout the search process, we heard what we believed to be true of our school community,” says Board President Don Marshall. “Our search for a student-first servant leader who is highly visible in our schools, possesses deep K-12 expertise, listens to staff and can advance evidence-based inclusive practices for all BH-BL learners was our priority. Throughout Dr. Abdoo’s leadership and longevity as an assistant superintendent, he’s proven he is ready to move into the role and be steadfast in his commitment to our continued success.”
Dr. Abdoo was selected following a comprehensive, inclusive, and transparent search process. The process involved forming a Hiring Committee composed of various stakeholder groups (i.e., parents, residents, staff, and students). Feedback was also gathered from employees, families, students and community members through an open survey and a series of forums and focus groups. Capital Region BOCES District Superintendent Lauren Gemmill served as the search consultant for BH-BL.
Dr. Abdoo brings more than 25 years of experience as an educator and public school administrator. He will continue to advance the district’s mission and vision to create an educational environment that ensures opportunities for learning, personal growth and social responsibility. We look forward to working together to provide a world-class education for our students here in our BH-BL community.
Dr. Abdoo will begin his new role as Superintendent of Schools on July 1, 2026.
