What do I need in order to register?
- We require that all students have a valid New York State Learner’s Permit or Driver’s License (a copy is required with the registration application) in order to be eligible for enrollment into the program.
- Students will be accepted based on their grade (seniors first, and juniors next), and then by birthdate.
- Students must bring their tuition payment ($300 check, made payable to BH-BL Schools) to the Main Office prior to the opening meeting. (At the initial meeting, payment will be processed for any students enrolled in the program, and checks will be returned to any students who are unable to be admitted for this session.)
Program Details
- The first session begins Monday, July 6 and runs through Friday, August 7.
- The second session begins Monday, August 3 and runs through Friday, September 4.
- Enrolled students receive 24 hours of classroom instruction (in a 1.5 hour Theory class once a week), 18 hours of in-car observation and 6 hours of behind the wheel instruction (in a 1.5 hour driving class once a week.
- Attendance at all classes is mandatory to meet these New York State requirements. Failure to do so will result in removal from the program. There are no refunds for students who do not meet the requirements of the Driver Education Program.
- Families are asked for their assistance in providing at least 20 hours of supervised driving time for your child in your family car. An additional 30 hours will be needed prior to obtaining their senior license at age 17.
- A student-driving log will be provided for you to initial at home. Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be issued an MV285 certificate. One portion of the certificate goes to DMV, allowing the student to schedule a road test or to obtain a senior license at age 17. The other portion of the certificate is to be presented to your automobile insurance company to obtain any applicable premium discounts.
Important Dates
- Registration ends May 26.
- The initial meeting for all drivers will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2026 in the LGI room at the High School to discuss the Driver Education program expectations, procedures and student schedules.
- Attendance at this meeting is mandatory for all drivers in order to participate in the Driver Education Program.
