This summer, there was an extra piece of goodness in the nourishing bags of food supplied to local families in need through the area’s Backpack Program. It was a book donated by Saratoga 250, which is a local organization focused on planning and orchestrating celebratory activities and events that recognize and honor America’s 250th birthday!
The book, Overhearing History, is a revolutionary story set in Saratoga Springs, NY. Written by Anne Clothier, the purpose of the book is to inform local youngsters about the history that is right in their backyard, in a way. It details how the Battles of Saratoga were considered the turning point of the American Revolution, and through this book, it highlighted in a way that’s digestible for young students.
The book were made possible with the help of Saratoga County and can be purchased from Amazon, book stores (such as Northshire) in Saratoga, as well as historical locations throughout Saratoga.
Additionally, several books were donated to BH-BL Assistant Superintendent Dr. David Collins who said he’s excited to add a piece of local historical literature to the schools’ libraries.
The backpack program is organized through local church groups who have also partner with the Regional Food Bank to fill backpacks/bags with food items in an effort to help reduce food insecurities with area families.
