Criminal Justice students Gervais and Pelletier become lifesavers

More than two-dozen seniors in the Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical Education Center (CTE) Criminal Justice program recently earned their CPR certifications. Among them were BH-BL High School seniors Chloe Gervais and Sadie Pelletier.

Gervais and Pelletier completed the American Heart Association training that was led by CTE Criminal Justice teacher Gerald Place and nurse Lisa Hatker.

The students earned the certification in preparing for careers in law enforcement, but the certification has immediate positive ramifications for the teens: According to the American Red Cross, performing CPR immediately after cardiac arrest can more than double a person’s chance of survival. With more than 350,000 cardiac-related deaths occurring each year in the United States, having trained responders in the community could make a life-saving difference.

Congratulations and thank you, Chloe and Sadie!

The Criminal Justice program prepares students for career in law enforcement by teaching them about the history, theory, practices and recent developments in the industry.
