There’s still time to register for the fall 2026 Driver Education Program

Program Details & Requirements

  • 24 hours of classroom instruction: One 1.5-hour Theory class per week after school.
  • 24 hours of in-car instruction: 18 hours of observation and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction (one 1.5-hour driving class per week, held before or after school).

Important Note: Attendance at all classes is mandatory to meet New York State requirements. Unexcused absences or failure to complete required hours will result in removal from the program without a refund.

Certificates (Road Test & Insurance)

Completion certificates will be submitted digitally to the DMV. Students will need to create their own online DMV account to access and print their certificate.

Registration & Priority Policy

To apply, please complete online application by  Thursday, September 3, 2026.

  • Eligibility: All applicants must hold a valid New York State Learner’s Permit or Driver’s License (a copy must be attached to the application).
  • Enrollment Priority: Priority is given to Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake (BH-BL) district students, ordered first by grade (Seniors, then Juniors) and then by birthdate. If spots remain after district placement, out-of-district students will be accepted.
  • Payment: Tuition is $300 (checks made payable to BH-BL Schools). Students should bring their payment to the Main Office prior to the orientation meeting. Payments will only be processed once enrollment is confirmed; checks will be returned to any students who cannot be accommodated.

Mandatory Orientation Meeting

The initial meeting for all enrolled drivers will take place on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at 2:30 pm in the High School Spartan LGI Room. Program expectations, procedures, and individual student schedules will be discussed. Attendance at this meeting is mandatory. Driving instruction officially begins on Monday, September 14. Please ensure your student carries their physical permit or license with them at all times during the course.
