Federal Government Announces School Meals are Free for All Students Through Dec. 31

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced that schools may provide free meals to all students through December 31, 2020.  This means that every BH-BL student may receive one free breakfast and one free lunch daily.  A lunch meal consists of an entree, fruit, vegetable, and milk. A breakfast meal consists of an entree, fruit and milk. This does not apply to a la carte food items.

Beginning Sept. 21, 2020, these meals will be available to virtual students as well as hybrid students on both their in-person days and remote days.  Only students who are Free or Reduced eligible can have their meal delivered, if necessary. Parents/Guardians of students at all five district buildings should request lunch and/or breakfast from the Food Service Director Nicky Boehm by 9 a.m. on the day of pickup, or the day before pickup if possible.

Parents/Guardians of students enrolled in BH-BL’s virtual school who chose to participate in this program will be able to pick up lunch as well as breakfast for the following day at BH-BL High School, 88 Lakehill Road, between 11:25 a.m. and 12:10 p.m. Student choosing to receive lunch on a day they are scheduled for remote learning may pick up lunch from the High School between 11:25 a.m. and 12:10 p.m.

Parents/guardians of students who are eligible for free and reduced meals should still complete a free/reduced application and submit to Food Service Director Nicky Boehm.

Applications for free and reduced-price lunches are sent home the first day of school, can be picked up at each school’s main office, or can be downloaded. Questions about this and other food service areas can be addressed to Food Service Department at 518-399-9141, ext. 85003. More information and the complete booklet is available on the NYS Education Department website.
