BH-BL Welcomes Christy as New High School Assistant Principal

At its May 6, 2026 meeting, the BH-BL Board of Education unanimouslynew assistant principal Sarah Christy appointed Sarah Christy as the new Assistant Principal of BH-BL High School. She is replacing current Assistant Principal Tom DiAcetis who will retire at the end of this school year. Christy will begin at BH-BL on July 1.

Christy has 18 years of educational experience and comes to BH-BL from Mohonasen Central School District where she is currently an assistant principal at Draper Middle School. Prior to that, she spent 16 years as a K-12 Teacher Leader & High School Choral teacher in the Averill Park School District (8 years) and Smithtown Central School District (8 years). During this time, she was the recipient of the Gideon Hawley Teacher Recognition Award presented by Union College and the recipient of the Students and Teacher Who Make a Difference Award presented by CASDA.

In her current position at Mohonasen, Christy’s main responsibilities center around student and school culture, strategic behavior management, scheduling, teacher training, data-driven leadership, curriculum & instruction, community building, and safety & compliance.

She comes to us with a stellar reputation as a visionary educator and a proven leader.”

In addition to becoming a Spartan professionally, Sarah and her husband live in the district and are parents of current Spartans. Their two sons attend O’Rourke Middle School and Charlton Heights Elementary School, respectively.

“We had a large pool of very strong candidates for this position,” adds Superintendent Dr. Patrick McGrath. “All of the candidates were highly qualified but Sarah was an exemplary candidate whose experience and passion for student success make her the perfect fit for this role.”

Christy is also a graduate of the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam where she earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and Performance Concentration in Voice. She earned a Masters of Arts in Liberal Studies from Stonybrook University and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Leadership from SUNY Potsdam.
