The BH-BL Transportation Department is implementing a new interactive transportation system that supports a mobile app providing parents/guardians instant access to their children’s transportation information and real-time GPS tracking. This means they’ll be able to see for themselves the ETA of their student’s bus, which can be particularly helpful if there is unexpected traffic or weather-related delays that could impact pick-up or drop-off times.
This new program will be implemented in two phases. Phase 1 starts on Tuesday, Oct. 10, with the use of on-bus tablets. (Therefore, this week, please allow an additional 5 to 10 minutes for pick-up and drop-off times as the drivers familiarize themselves with the tablets.) All data entered on the tablets will communicate with the mobile GPS app in real-time to keep parents informed.
Launching the mobile app is Phase 2, and includes providing all students with ID badges that they’ll swipe/tap on the tablet upon boarding the school bus. Phase 2 is anticipated for November/December.
