The New York State Education Department has established learning standards for Business Education under a category entitled: Career & Technical Education.
High School Business Education Offerings
Business Education courses serve to prepare students for employment and offer life skills useful in high school, college, and future work. Courses range from Career and Financial Management and Money Management to Accounting and Sports Marketing and Management.

Career Exploration Internship Program (CEIP)
The Career Exploration Internship Program is a 1/2-year, 1/2-credit (or 1-year, 1-credit) non-paid internship open to all Juniors and Seniors. CEIP provides a link between school and possible careers. The program gives students hands-on experience in a variety of careers so that they can become aware of what it is really like to work in those careers.
Students will gain an understanding of the importance of a positive work ethic, timeliness, and good study habits. In addition, they will have an opportunity to improve their teamwork and human relation skills. While interning, students may experience several different work stations with several mentors. Relationships will be developed between the mentor and the student that will possibly result in recommendation for employment, future careers, and/or college. A classroom component is also required.
Individual student interests will be accommodated as much as possible. Internships may occur outside the school day. Students will need to provide their own transportation. All applicants must be screened by the Director of Career and Technical Education and their guidance counselor. CEIP was developed cooperatively between the NY State Departments of Education and Labor and fulfills one credit toward a Regents or a Local diploma. It can also satisfy the 4th or 5th credit in a Career & Technical education sequence. The following are examples of internships that CEIP students may explore:

Work Experience Program
This program allows students to combine work experience with their school programs. Students selecting this program plan a program of work and education with the assistance of their counselor and the Work Experience Coordinator leading to success both on the job and in school. The Work Experience Office assists students in their search for a job and, through weekly sessions, explores with students their future career choices and job retention skills. During the working portion of the school day, students are supervised by a Work Experience Coordinator and the employer.
